Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Heartworm testing – Because heartworm disease is such a serious condition and so prevalant in our area, we recommend yearly heartworm testing on all of our canine patients.

Feline Leukemia Virus/Feline Immunodeficiency Virus/Heartworm AntigenTesting (FELV/FIV/HW Combo test) – These diseases are a major cause of illness and death. Both FeLV and FIV viruses are infectious by contact with other cats carrying these viruses. This makes testing so important especially when introducing a new cat to a household. Ask any member of our staff for more information about testing.

Microscope Evaluation/Cytology – Cytology can be used to diagnose and treat various conditions including ear infections, skin infections, dermal and subcutaneous masses, as well as lymph node aspirations.

Blood Chemistries – This in-house testing gives our doctors a quick look into the health of your pet. These tests reveal information about your pet’s liver, kidneys, proteins, sugars, and pancreas, along with red blood cell and white blood cell status.

Urinalysis – A urinalysis may reveal suspected diabetes, kidney disease and infection.  A urinalysis may reveal early kidney disease (before blood values change).

Walker Animal Hospital also uses an outside veterinary reference lab for more advanced laboratory testing. Ask any of our doctors for more information.
